Earl Bowerman’s childhood home
filled with love, but no indoor plumbing

Earl Bowerman and his wife, Karen, reside in Camas, Washington. Earl  was raised on a family dairy farm in El Dorado, Arkansas. He helped with dairy chores from age seven, feeding and haying calves and driving the cows from fields to the dairy barn. Tractor driving to deliver hay to the cow feedlot area began at age nine. Raw Jersey milk and home churned butter were family staples. As a 4-H Club member, Earl showed dairy heifers at the Union County Fair and participated in dairy cow judging contests. Earl was on the football team and was president of his senior class.

Earl graduated with a BS in Agriculture from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. During the undergraduate years, Earl was elected University Senator and mayor of his student housing area Terry Village. After obtaining the Masters of Science degree at the University of Arkansas, Earl attended Rutgers University and was awarded the PhD degree.

Earl, now Dr. Bowerman, joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in the Department of Soil and Crop Science. At Texas A&M he met his wife, Karen Dill, who was named the Distinguished Graduate Student of the entire university. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

After four years at Texas A&M, Earl and Karen joined the faculty at California State University, Fresno. Earl eventually retired from Cal State, Fresno and they moved to San Bernardino, CA where Karen became Dean of Business and Public Administration at CSUSB and retired in 2010 as Dean Emeritus. In 2009 Karen and Earl purchased a home in the Great Northwest and began preparations to move. They sought clean air and water, beautiful mountains, a delightful climate, scenic seashore and a bountiful agricultural community with amazing horticulture and thriving business in Southwest Washington.
